1984 5 Part 3 Ch. 6

This chapter dramatically illustrates that the Party can get "inside you" as it details the drudgery characterizing Winston's life since his release. The theme of alienation comes to fruition as Winston spends most of his time alone in a corner in an alcoholic stupor. This miserable existence has been foreshadowed earlier through the actions of Syme whose vaporization Winston himself had predicted. Ironically, both he and Winston had shared the trait leading to downfall: intelligence. We can project that the promised bullet will soon arrive.

1984 4 Part 2 Ch 9

Set against a background of oppression, Winston's joy at the freedom to read arouses the reader's curiosity as well. The first chapter of The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism parodies Marx and Engels's Communist Manifesto (1848), which explains a recurrent pattern of a class struggle between the proletarians and bourgeois, the concept of economic determinism, and the inevitability of communism. That these ideas foreshadowed Stalin's totalitarianism is widely acknowledged.

1984 3 Part 2 ch. 3

The character of Julia dominates this chapter. Although she claims not "to be clever," she reveals her cunning in a number of different ways. She is the one who plans the secret rendezvous sites and who immerses herself in Party activities so she will be least suspected of breaking the rules.

1984 2

Part 1 Ch. 6 and 7. Writing as a means to explore feelings and vent frustrations is a central motif here as these chapters revolve around the diary. It seems logical that in these chapters, writing is a vehicle to reveal the truth, which follows and contrasts the chapters showing language as a mechanism to create lies.

1984 1

The opening paragraphs of 1984 define the setting. Orwell's choice of "cold" and "vile" as well as phrases such as "swirl of gritty dust" to describe the April afternoon establish the atmosphere for the "coldness" of the plot to follow. The appeal to the senses is especially effective. Additionally, the clock is striking "13." This seemingly minor detail suggests an abnormality in the setting, which foreshadows the events that will occur there.

Kite Runner 5

Kite Runner is a very inspirational novel that extremely highlights the actions and tensions of modern day Afghanistan. Every character had their strong and weak points throughout their life. The most pristine character throughout his life – though not the protagonist – would have to be Hassan, Hassan has virtually never failed to please Amir. Amir – the protagonist – failed to protect his “behind-the-scene” best friend and apparently half-brother which virtually put his life out of whack. This novel is the epitome of modern day Afghanistan, and has highlighted attributes found in modern day Afghanis and notable figures in life and has concocted a magnificent work of art.

Kite Runner 4

Hassan is quite accurately the most pristine character in the entire book and probably the most pure spirit Amir has ever met. Though most kids Hassan’s age would have things their own way, Hassan would rather have it Amir’s way the most. Karma that rewards usually exists in the conscious of most people’s mind, but for Hassan the only kind of karma that exists is the kind that takes away. After the continuous help that Hassan gives, He’s one of the first to die.

Kite Runner 3

Baba is a very intimidating person at first sight, but is a very caring, planted soul. When Amir was a little boy, Baba always took good care of his family, but not their emotional needs. Amir’s constant necessity for his father’s love is lived short when Baba sees some kids picking on Amir. When years pass, we see that Baba starts caring more for Amir, but still stands up for what he believes in.

Kite runner 2

Describe Amir's characteristics and personality.

Amir - though the protagonist - wasn't exactly the most trustworthy person during his childhood. I could understand Amir's constant desire to please Baba, I mean what kind of child wouldn't want to meet all of his parents needs and wants? Though a fine, well-determined man, Amir wouldn't have been who he was and is today without his many adventures. When a child, he was confused about what he wanted and how he acted toward others. A single moment would've changed his life maybe for the better or apparently for the worse - the moment he laid eyes on Assef beating, then raping Hassan.

Kite runner 1

Describe Assef's characteristics and personality.

Assef is so belligerent and mad with power over others thats it's grotesque. From the moment Amir shares what he saw with his own eyes in the alley, I knew from that moment on we would see Assef later on in Amir's life. As Amir's journey to back to Kabul in search for Sohrab, he has dealt with emotions that would crush another parent's heart. Sightings so horrible have since then entered Amir's mind, like when Amir saw Sohrab in the bathtub filled with blood-tainted water. As the journey went on, I knew that Amir would have to talk to and apparently fight the man in charge - Assef.
